Magical light on wide beaches
There are enchanting cliffs and extensive sandy beaches very close to Lisbon. I love taking photos here. The depth and expanse, the crashing waves and the rugged cliffs are deeply impressive … despite the fact that there are sometimes quite a lot of people out and about, but they get completely lost on these extensive beaches.
The light is simply magical on the west coast of Portugal, especially in the late afternoon: constantly changing colours on the water and in the sky, sometimes dramatic, sometimes very gentle. This varied coastline exudes a wild romance, a little freedom, a little adventure and a lot of emotion. It is always a gift to take portraits of people here on an enchanting beach, to capture emotions and moments that show so much more than just beautiful photos – a piece of their personality, their joy and vitality.
The impressive power of nature
These impressive beaches and cliffs bring a lot of tranquillity, but also energy – both of which are reflected in my pictures. When you’re here, you suddenly have no other thoughts. Nature, the sea, the wind challenge you and at the same time bring out what is most important – no distractions, just the moment. It’s as if everything superfluous falls away from you and you come back to yourself. I love this power of nature so much. It gives you clarity, calm and also humility before the beauty of this world.
